Pilar Moreno won the Ada Byron Award for Women in Technology

Pilar Moreno, co-founder of Guska, won the Ada Byron Award for Women in Technology in Uruguay, organized by the Catholic University of Uruguay.

Fernanda Cardona, Minister of Industry, presented the award, which had more than 80 candidates.

The jury stated that Moreno is “a role model who combines academic rigor, social impact, and a forward-looking vision.” The report added that “she inspires new generations of women to choose science and technology as a way of life.”

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, he took part in developing key actions for Uruguay’s health response: together with his team, he led the creation of the Uruguayan diagnostic test and the establishment of a public network of laboratories. He is currently driving research on mRNA vaccines and oncolytic viruses, in search of innovative cancer therapies,” highlights the text.

It also points out that the creation of Guska “reflects his conviction that basic research can be transformed into concrete solutions for society.”

In addition to being part of Guska, Moreno is a researcher at the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo and the Faculty of Science (Udelar).
