Carlos Batthyány

Carlos is foremost a father of two loving daughters and proud husband to his inspiring wife Maria, an MD.

Carlos’ life has centered for more than 25 years around science and medical health. His European roots, combined with his Latin American and US academic and professional experience in medical science and the life sciences at large, have catapulted him to the Executive Director position in Montevideo of the world famous Institut Pasteur.

Carlos has an extraordinary capacity to quickly capture deep biological scientific principles and evaluate pathways forward. He is an acclaimed co-inventor of five international patents and has been one of the driving forces behind EOLO Pharma, a highly promising global drug development company.

Carlos holds Postdoctoral, PhD and Master degrees from prestigious academic institutions in Uruguay and the US in areas like Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and published scientific research work in more than 40 indexed journals. He is a natural team builder and has exceptional communication skills, being able to translate complex scientific principles to comprehensible solutions.

Paul Elberse

Passionate father of four and happily married forever with Susette, his ‘social consciousness’ and love of his life.

Paul has a distinguished international track record spanning more than 25 years of experience in senior executive positions in both nimble entrepreneurial companies, as well as international financial institutions on four different continents. He has held leadership, governance and ownership positions in life sciences, technology, robotics and renewable energy development companies and finance (banks, pension and investment funds, insurance and investment banking).

He has worked hand in hand with institutions like the World Bank, IFC, IADB, and institutional investors. His opinions are colored by having lived and worked in places like Amsterdam, Hamburg, Paris, Singapore, Moscow, Montevideo and New York. Paul is passionate about the immense changes we are facing that can help us improve lives and livelihoods: true to his deal making DNA, he has acted as an investor and director in early stage development companies on the frontline of new developments and is focused on areas like gene sequencing and therapies, novel diagnostic methods, biotechnology, renewable energy, AI and robotics.
